Tonika, a born-n-raised Bronx girl with nothing more than passion and a wild dream to be amazing while living a fashionable life of abundance. ​ I’ve always believed that I was born to help others be great. I am a licensed cosmetologist with over 20 years of natural hair & business experience. My goal is to add more value to your core by giving you the best tools to improve your business and personal life. ​ At the age of 25, when I was a single parent of a 3-year-old, I decided to open my first hair salon. Several years later sold it at such a large profit that I was able to go back to school and live in NYC for 3 years with my son without having to work. ​ I lived a blessed life as a salon business owner. Many times friends and family will try to make you believe that this is not a "real job". But the truth is that the beauty/hair industry is a billion-dollar business that is continuously growing. It will never go away. People will always need services by hairstylists. ​

Certified Natural Hair Care Technician/Loctician Ronni Gray

After spending 30 years as a law enforcement official, Robertina Gray retired in May 2019. The native Washingtonian, moved to Southern Maryland to pursue a life-long ambition as a natural hairstylist. Married with 4 adult children, “Ronni” as she is affectionately known, developed her love of natural hair care during her teenage years by creating braid styles for neighbors. After graduating from high school, she traveled abroad to attend the University of Maryland European Division for 3 years before returning to her native home, DC. While working as a law enforcement official, Ronni started writing grants as a contract specialist. But finally, after retiring, she began the journey of a full-time natural hair & loc specialist.

Professionalism is what people often look for when they walk into any establishment but Understanding and Patience is what will make people seek you out over and over again instead of the other person. When I walked into Zamora to take cornrow and braiding class offered I received that and more. As a Man I was very nervous about being in a salon environment and if I could even learn how to do a basic flat-twist or part hair the right way. However as Ms. Tonika started to focus her energy on helping me get understanding on everything I was doing I could see she had a master knowledge of her craft . No matter how many times I asked for help or to do something over again her welcoming tone never changed and the same can be said for her staff which relaxed me and put me at ease. "I might not be the ideal client for the hair braiding classes as I'm not a stylist, nor do I own my own salon. My goal was to be able to braid my daughter's hair. I will say paying that much for a class was a little scary, but I was tired of dropping $150 every time I got her hair done. I felt like this was an investment that would pay off in the long run.   • Can I get my license with this course?

    You would have to contact your state cosmetology board to see if an online program is accepted. Check your state licensing requirements for hair braiders license requirements (natural hair styling is categorized as hair braiding).

  • Where are you located?

    We are an online school located in the DC/ MD area but have students all over the world.

  • Are you accredited?

    We are not an accredited school. This is an online vocational development program.

  • I already know how to braid and style natural hair, why should I take your course?

    Taking the course will help you master natural hair & braid techniques to grow your business​. You will build confidence and skill level. You will also be able to add your training, apprenticeship, and your hands-on experience to your resume.

  • I am a beginner and I know nothing about braiding, will I be able to learn how to braid when I'm done with a class?

    It doesn't matter which class you attend, Tonika guarantees that you will learn the techniques you signed up for.

  • Can I get a refund?

    There are no refunds, but you may exchange one class for another.

  • Are the supplies included with the tuition?
